I am mulling over the idea of transferring my blog from blogspot to wordpress...  hmmmmmm

Books not War Project

Image
Assalamu Alaykum! (Peace be upon you all) Let me talk about the recent successful project we had just this June. It was coined "Books not War: A 'give-a-book' project for the children of Sulu". I will share in this humble post how the project started, how we planned it, the struggles we experienced and finally, how we reached the finish line, Alhamdulillah!  It started with a Message Last October 2015, I received a message from a reader of this blog (and my other blog Tausug 101 ) telling me about her plans. She organized this project where they would collect used books to be sent to less fortunate children in the far-flung areas. By then, they already created an FB Page entitled "Books not War", so we kept that title until the very end. And of all the provinces in the country, they chose Sulu to be the beneficiary. It was indeed a simple yet very generous act of kindness from their part and I was really touched. Maa sha Allah! How won...

Why armed conflicts never end

This "offensive" as their means to "solve" the problem is like giving paracetamol to an end stage cancer patient. They are creating more problems than solution. Chaos than peace. More lives and properties lost than preservation of them in any way. And as the number of families affected by this war increases, as more and more dead bodies to be considered either as "perhaps a rebel or a collateral, maybe both?", they are creating MORE REASONS for those people who lost their l ove ones, those who remain and survive all those terror of war, to take arms and resist. How hard is that to understand? Say the Military kills 24 "rebels". How many of those 24 are actually civilians caught up in the crossfire? Have we ever asked about that? Should we really accept everything that these men in green, these "Arms for Peace" are saying? How many of those families, sons, fathers, even daughters and sisters, friends, neighbors will feel the p...

Al-Barka Incident: Can We Just please, be Fair?

Image
Bismillah. The recent incident that took place in Basilan last October 18, 2011 is not a new issue to all of us. It had happened again and again before, and it can always happen again next time. Unless something (and this something is actually a load of things) is changed. Something must be changed, and someone must do it (and that someone is not just one man). Certainly, I was more disgusted by how the media portrayed the news to the common people. It was so much polarized, biased, misleading and a lot of twitched information was presented that made the people more confused than satisfied. And as how I expected it to be, the people are now divided. Those who were tricked and had fallen into the trap believed that proclaiming all-out-war is the solution. And those who knew what happened, were vigilant in voicing out what they know. Yet they were overpowered by the massive influence of media and they were outnumbered. Only a few would hear them. And a lot fewer would believe the...
