  Assalamu Alaykum! (Peace be upon you all) Let me talk about the recent successful project we had just this June. It was coined "Books not War: A 'give-a-book' project for the children of Sulu". I will share in this humble post how the project started, how we planned it, the struggles we experienced and finally, how we reached the finish line, Alhamdulillah!  It started with a Message Last October 2015, I received a message from a reader of this blog (and my other blog Tausug 101 ) telling me about her plans. She organized this project where they would collect used books to be sent to less fortunate children in the far-flung areas. By then, they already created an FB Page entitled "Books not War", so we kept that title until the very end. And of all the provinces in the country, they chose Sulu to be the beneficiary. Assalamu Alaykum! For the 12th week of the year 2015, here are the things that happened: The Exam last Wednesday was O-kay, I think. Well it was not that easy, there were essay questions that requires some knowledge of the subject matter. We were provided with enough time for our reading materials anyway, so if we failed to learn those concepts, its on us. (Oh I miss answering essay questions after 3 years of multiple-choice scantron type exams haha). The recall-type MCQ ones are tricky as well. Huh, what's new with our exams anyway. Our Urban Community Medicine Rotation finally ended with our Final Reporting last Friday. It was not-the-usual all clinico-pathological presentation that we had in other rotations. Rather, it was more of a collation of 'creative' outputs from the four groups under ComMed for the last 2 weeks. Last October 2014 I attended the "Biyaheng Panulat 2014" wherein famous Filipino writers and composers came to our campus to, well, supposedly give inspiration to those who are aspiring to be writers and composers be it in the mainstream or just by themselves. And it was just a great blessing that I had no class that day :) So I did not hesitate to attend! I wanted to hear what those guys would say, and see if they will really inspire me (haha skeptic mode) but aside from that, I also wanted to see those guys who wrote some of the books that I have read before: Eros Atalia, Ricky Lee, Manix Abrera and Bob Ong.. ==Special are for Bob Ong: *He was supposed to be the "special guess with special appearance who fooled us because it was just a special performance of special powerpoint presentation and special message read by a student officer at the back stage with some special lighting. Sembreak Series: part 2 of unknown number of parts. October 26, 2013 It’s my second sembreak as a medstudent. Yup. I am already a year and a half done with medschool (and hundred more years to come. LOL). And As I usually don’t go home to my beloved homeland (Sulu) during sembreaks for a lot of reasons, I might as well spend the whole two weeks of freedom (and boredom) doing something worth remembering: read away from medicine-related things. I keep on telling myself that I should be productive this sembreak that I may not regret it (or die of boredom from it). After all what’s the purpose of calling it a “break” if you’ll not take a break? Haha.  I spent the first week of this break on different things. 1) I spent a day rummaging my things and looking for unfinished books to read.
